Nigerian singer and songwriter Omawunmi, has weighed in on modern dating and the popular opinion that relationships have now become transactional.
The singer, while speaking with Pulse, explained that although the dynamics of relationships have changed in recent times, relationships have always been transactional.
Omawunmi also claimed that the opinion became more popular because the standards gradually increased. She also explained that people often misunderstand the term ‘transactional’, emphasising the need for joint efforts in relationships.
“I disagree. Because we women have had long throat since the beginning of time, you know, but our transactional was different because if it was all those like secondary school to uni days of holding hands or crushing on a girl or a boy, you know, you just stay there, buy them ice cream and popcorn. But now, it’s now iPhone. There’s always been some level of transaction. So when you use the word transactional, you make it like, it’s so strong a word. If you are feeling somebody, like I always encourage that if I’m with a man that showers gifts on me and, you know, I always try to match that energy,” she stated.
