AFRIGOS Films has announced that its feature film, The Specialists, has been officially selected for the International Black & Diversity Film Festival (IBDFF) 2026 in Ontario, Canada, where it has also garnered seven award nominations ahead of its global release.

“This early international recognition positions The Specialists as one of the most compelling African films currently entering the global market, an unreleased title already attracting attention for its scale, craft, and bold storytelling,” the company said in a statement.

Directed and produced by Paulgold Olalekan Joseph, The Specialists is a gripping political crime thriller that explores power, loyalty, corruption, and the human cost of control within a high-stakes system.

It was written by Emil Garuba; known for acclaimed titles such as Lionheart (Nigeria’s first Netflix Original film), 4th Republic (funded by the MacArthur Foundation), and Road to Yesterday, in collaboration with his brother, Echobu Michael Garuba. Together, they deliver a layered and compelling narrative that blends political insight with gripping cinematic tension, brought to life through the assured and visually driven directorial vision of Paulgold Olalekan Joseph, whose execution anchors the film with scale, intensity, and global appeal under AFRIGOS Films’ creative development slate.

The film features a distinguished cast including Sam Dede, Mbasiti Jesse, Bimbo Akintola, Alhassan Abraham, Francis Duru, Baaj Adebule, Preach Bassey, Mariah Ugbashi, Aondofa Saaka and Chibuzor Okechukwu.

Produced by AFRIGOS Films, with international collaboration that includes Canada-based El-Sueno Films Inc., the project reflects a deliberate effort to bridge African storytelling with global cinematic standards. Shot on some of cinemas advanced technologies and completed through cross-continental post-production spanning Nigeria, Turkey, and the United States, the film demonstrates a level of technical precision and narrative ambition rarely seen in emerging market productions.

Speaking on the milestone, Director and Producer Paulgold Olalekan Joseph noted:

With its festival momentum building, The Specialists is now entering active discussions for international distribution, sales representation, and strategic partnerships across theatrical, streaming, and television platforms.
