The Nigerian community in the United Kingdom has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a Nigerian man, Herbert, who reportedly died the same day his father was buried in Nigeria.
The incident was confirmed by a community leader, Oluomo of Derby, who described the development as heartbreaking and called for support for the deceased’s family.
“We have lost another brother in the Nigerian community here in the UK. Tragically, he passed away on the very same day his father was being laid to rest in Nigeria,” he said in a statement.
Herbert, described as a calm and devoted husband and father of three, reportedly died in his sleep in Thornaby, United Kingdom.
According to accounts shared within the community, the deceased had been under emotional and financial strain following the recent death of his father in Nigeria. He was said to have been unable to travel for the burial but contributed financially to ensure a befitting funeral.
Tragedy struck shortly after, as he died on the same day his father was laid to rest.
In a particularly distressing development, his children were said to have discovered his body at home, as his wife was not around at the time.
The death has left his wife to care for their three young children alone, while also facing the financial burden of funeral arrangements and plans to repatriate his remains to Nigeria.
Members of the Nigerian community in the UK have since launched a fundraising campaign to support the family, urging the public to contribute towards burial and related expenses.
Oluomo of Derby appealed for solidarity, calling on Nigerians and others to support the bereaved family.
“No amount is too small. Your support, prayers, and kindness will go a long way. Let’s stand with the family and show them they are not alone,” he added.
