Morocco has released three Senegalese football fans after they finished serving a three-month prison sentence. They were jailed for taking part in violence during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Rabat.

The three fans were taken from Al Arjat 2 prison to a police station before being officially released. Afterward, they were welcomed by officials from the Senegalese embassy.

One of the fans expressed happiness and even praised Morocco as he left.

Their lawyer, Patrick Kabou, thanked diplomatic officials for helping secure their release. He also urged the public to support the men as they adjust to life after prison.

However, 15 other Senegalese fans are still in jail. They were given longer sentences ranging from six months to one year. These sentences were confirmed on appeal earlier in the week.

All the fans were arrested after the AFCON final on January 18. They were accused of hooliganism, which included violence against security officers, damaging stadium property, invading the pitch, and throwing objects.

In addition, a French man of Algerian descent was also released after serving three months in prison for throwing a water bottle duringbtye match.
