A fresh crisis is brewing in the Kano State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following allegations of a planned parallel congress by a faction within the party.

A group loyal to Hon. Muhammad Yusuf Babba Dan Agundi has raised the alarm, warning that the move by what it described as a “faceless faction” could trigger unrest.

The Dan Agundi Support Group petitioned the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urging immediate intervention to prevent the proposed gathering, which it said poses a threat to peace and stability.

Findings indicate that under a recent power-sharing arrangement within the Kano ADC, supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar secured 40 per cent, while the Kwankwasiyya Movement led by Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and allies of former Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna each got 30 per cent.

However, in a letter addressed to the police commissioner, the support group alleged that unidentified individuals were planning to conduct a separate leadership exercise under the guise of representing the party.

According to the group, the meeting is scheduled for April 20, 2026, along Murtala Muhammad Way in Kano.

It said the plan came to light through a local radio broadcast, raising concerns over the legitimacy and intentions of the organisers.

The group warned that allowing the meeting to proceed without proper scrutiny could create confusion among party members and heighten tensions.

It called on the police to halt the planned congress and investigate those behind it.

The group added that proactive intervention by security agencies is necessary to prevent a breakdown of law and order and safeguard lives and property in the state.
