The Ogun State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on crime, with the arrest of four suspects and recovery of illegal firearms and ammunition in separate operations across Mowe, Sagamu, and Odeda areas of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operations were intelligence-driven and aimed at curbing cultism, unlawful possession of firearms, and other violent crimes.

Babaseyi noted that on April 14, operatives of the Mowe Division acted on credible information from a member of the public, leading to the arrest of a 36-year-old suspect, Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, at Mowe Bus Stop.

He stated that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, an expended cartridge, and charms. He added that the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.

In a related development, Babaseyi said operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) arrested a 30-year-old suspect, Asaye Ajibola, during a stop-and-search operation along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road.

He explained that the suspect was intercepted while riding a motorcycle and found in possession of a firearm loaded with cartridges, which he could not satisfactorily account for.

Babaseyi further stated that another suspect, Adedeji Olufemi, 49, was apprehended the following day at the same axis after being found with a double-barrel firearm and additional cartridges during a routine patrol.

The police spokesperson also disclosed that a separate incident occurred in the Sawmill area of Osiele, Odeda Local Government Area, where a vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku, allegedly discharged a firearm accidentally, injuring three persons.

He noted that the suspect had been arrested and the weapon recovered, while the victims were taken to hospital and are responding to treatment.

According to him, all suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and reiterated the command’s resolve to intensify intelligence-led operations across the state.

Babaseyi added that the police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, assuring that public cooperation remains crucial in sustaining the fight against crime.
