“It will be too late for Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party because, according to the Electoral Act, once we close the register and submit the e-register, no one can join after that,” she said.

The Interim National Chairperson of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, has stated that it will be too late for Peter Obi to rejoin the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Usman made the assertion during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Wednesday, explaining that the Electoral Act mandates the closure of voter registration 21 days before the party primaries.

Once the registration closes and the e-register is submitted, no individual can join the party through the back door.

“It will be too late for Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party because, according to the Electoral Act, once we close the register and submit the e-register, no one can join after that,” she said.

Usman, who acknowledged Obi’s significant contributions to the party in 2023, further emphasized that he had taken the party to greater heights. However, she maintained that the party’s focus now is on the future and following the rules set by the Electoral Act.

“Obi did an excellent job in the 2023 election, and he brought many people to the party, including myself. We all believed in his vision for equity and fairness. But now, we have to follow the legal framework and proceed accordingly,” she concluded.
