Nigeria international Akor Adams, who plays as a striker for Sevilla FC, has welcomed the growing number of Nigerian players in LaLiga, expressing his pride in how their presence is boosting the country’s visibility in European football while also enhancing fan interest across Africa.
During a recent media interaction, Adams reflected on his personal growth, national team experience, and the rising influence of Nigerian football talent in Spain.
Speaking specifically about the addition of compatriot Ademola Lookman to LaLiga, Adams said, “We’re happy to have Lookman in La Liga. We are blessed to experience his football. He’s an amazing, amazing player and even a wonderful person. So having more Nigerians in La Liga would also make Africans watch more of the league, which is what we need. And to, yeah, enjoy the time here.”
Adams emphasized the warm reception Nigerians receive in Spain, noting, “The people are very good. They’re very welcoming to Africans. And I think we can have a great time here in Spain.”
The comments come as Nigerian footballers continue to make a mark in LaLiga, a league historically known for its strong Nigerian representation. Players such as Finidi George, Mutiu Adepoju, and the Uche brothers, Ikechukwu and Kalu, laid the foundation for Nigerian talent in Spanish football. More recently, Samuel Chukwueze, who made an impact with Villarreal CF, continues to carry the torch for the country, earning recognition as one of the league’s top African players.
With Adams and Lookman now leading the charge, Nigerian footballers are shaping a new narrative in LaLiga. Reports also suggest that another Nigerian, Victor Osimhen, is attracting attention from Barcelona, who are reportedly considering him as a potential replacement for their ageing striker, Robert Lewandowski.
Adams also touched on how his involvement with the Super Eagles has contributed to his growth as a player. He shared, “There is a level of confidence that comes from being called up with your national team. For me, it’s been very positive.” The 26-year-old praised his club’s efforts to manage his workload, acknowledging the challenges of balancing club and international football.
He added, “There is fatigue, and all of those things are normal when you play a lot of games. But the club helps me manage my workload, and I take good care of my body.”
