CAF’s acting Secretary-General, Samson Adamu, said the decision was not easy, but it was made to ensure the tournament is held in the best possible conditions for the players and teams.

The tournament was originally planned to start on March 17, 2026, but it has now been moved to July 25 – August 16.

Adamu said there were challenges that made it impossible to hold the competition properly at the original time. He also said that after a successful men’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), it is important that the women’s tournament is also well organised and of high quality.
