A US-flagged commercial vessel has safely exited the Strait of Hormuz under the protection of American military assets, shipping giant Maersk confirmed late Monday, in a development that underscores the fragile security situation in the Gulf.

The company said the vessel, identified as Alliance Fairfax, completed its transit “without incident,” adding that all crew members were safe and unharmed after months of uncertainty.

According to Maersk, the ship had been unable to leave the Gulf since February 2026, when hostilities escalated between the United States and Iran, disrupting commercial shipping routes through one of the world’s most critical corridors.

The breakthrough came after the United States military approached the company and offered support to facilitate the vessel’s passage.

Following what Maersk described as the development of a “comprehensive security plan,” the ship was cleared to depart and subsequently escorted through the narrow waterway by US military assets.

Maersk expressed appreciation for the “professionalism and effective coordination” of the operation, which ensured the vessel’s safe exit from the volatile.

Earlier, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said two US-flagged merchant vessels had “successfully transited” the Strait, suggesting a broader effort to restore confidence in maritime operations in the Gulf.

However, the claims were swiftly challenged by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which dismissed the US account as “outright lies,” reflecting the deep mistrust between both sides amid the ongoing standoff.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital artery for global energy supplies, handling a significant share of the world’s seaborne oil trade. Any disruption to shipping in the corridor has immediate implications for international markets and energy security.
