Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), declaring her intention to contest the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Yesufu made this known in a statement shared on her X handle on Wednesday, explaining that her decision was driven by what she described as a deeper understanding of the country’s future and her continued alignment with the political direction of Peter Obi.

She noted that her earlier support for Obi influenced her move to the ADC, adding that her switch to the NDC reflects her commitment to sustaining that support.

According to her, joining the NDC is not only about membership but also about actively contesting for the FCT senatorial seat under the party.

Yesufu said she concluded her responsibilities within the ADC before leaving, describing her exit as a smooth and respectful transition.

She expressed gratitude to party members, noting that she had the opportunity to serve in various capacities, including sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary, which she described as a valuable experience.

Her defection comes amid ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s opposition politics, following recent moves by Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the NDC, a development that has triggered a wave of defections from the ADC.
