Maritime Academy To Acquire Training Vessel
The acting Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, MAN, Oron, Mr. Joshua Okpo, recently highlighted the need for the academy to acquire a vessel to enhance the training of its cadets.
Speaking during an interactive session with visiting members of Maritime Reporters Congress of Nigeria (MARCON) recently, Okpo said the academy has constituted a team of Maritime experts including its former Rector, Engr. Olu Akinsoji and some senior naval officers to draw out plans to achieve the objective.
He listed the options of approaching the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for funding under its Cabotage Vessels Finance Fund (CVFF), taking a loan and seeking private sector collaboration under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
He said the academy will follow due process in whatever option it adopts, adding that the management will continue to be transparent so as to sustain harmony and give all stakeholders a sense of belonging.
