FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is grieving the death of his father just hours before one of football’s biggest fixtures-the El Clásico clash against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou.

The Spanish giants confirmed the development in a heartfelt message shared on social media on Sunday, expressing solidarity with the German coach and his family during the difficult period.

“FC Barcelona and the entire Blaugrana family wish to send all our love to Hansi Flick after the passing of his father. We share in your sorrow and our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time,” the club stated.

Barcelona also released the message in German, reflecting support for the 60-year-old tactician in his native language.

Flick, who has revitalised Barcelona since taking charge in the summer of 2024, had been preparing to lead the Catalan side in another high-pressure showdown against arch-rivals Real Madrid.

However, the emotional weight of the occasion has now shifted beyond football, with attention focused on the personal tragedy confronting the former Germany and Bayern Munich coach.

Details surrounding the death of Flick’s father have not been disclosed publicly.

The Barcelona boss has previously spoken about the influence of his family on his career, particularly the role his father played in shaping his discipline, values and approach to leadership.

Known for his calm personality and composed touchline presence, Flick has earned admiration from players and supporters alike for his man-management and professionalism.

As of Sunday afternoon, there was no official confirmation on whether he would take charge from the bench for the match in Madrid.

Barcelona’s hierarchy and technical staff are understood to have given him full support and flexibility to make whatever decision he considers best for himself and his family.

The club stressed that Flick’s well-being remains the priority at this difficult moment.
