Onanuga Doubles Down: ‘Obi cannot be trusted with Nigeria’s Presidency!’

. “Consider his record: while in APGA, he publicly placed himself under a self-imposed curse, vowing never to leave the party that made him governor.
Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has doubled down on his doubts about the trustworthiness of former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following the latter’s insistence on his one-term presidential pledge.
Onanuga, who has consistently questioned Obi’s political integrity, responded to an interview Obi gave to News Central, where the former Anambra State governor reiterated his stance to only serve a single term if elected in 2027. In that interview, Obi said, “I want to be a one-term president because of stability. I would not stay a day longer than four years… even with a gun to my head.”
In response, Onanuga launched a fresh attack, reminding Nigerians of Obi’s past political track record, particularly his shifting allegiances. Onanuga pointed to Obi’s previous vow of loyalty to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which he later left, and questioned how Obi could now be trusted to keep his word.
“If you believe Peter Obi’s promise to serve only one term as president, you’ll believe anything,” Onanuga wrote in a post shared on his X handle. “Consider his record: while in APGA, he publicly placed himself under a self-imposed curse, vowing never to leave the party that made him governor. He gave his word to the Ikemba, even on his deathbed, pledging loyalty and fidelity to APGA.”
He added, “By his own actions, Peter Obi has shown that his word cannot be trusted. His promises are as fleeting as his political allegiances.”
Obi, who recently defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), alongside Rabiu Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is now positioned to contest under the NDC platform. Reports suggest that Kwankwaso will run as Obi’s vice president.bsp;
