Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has announced he will leave FC Barcelona after four glittering seasons, bringing an emotional end to one of the most successful late-career moves in modern football.

Lewandowski confirmed his departure in a heartfelt message posted on social media on Saturday, describing his time in Catalonia as “the most incredible chapter” of his career.

“After four years full of challenges and hard work, it’s time to move on,” the 37-year-old striker wrote.

The former Bayern Munich star said he was leaving with the feeling that “the mission is complete,” after helping Barcelona reclaim domestic dominance during a transformative period for the club.

Lewandowski joined Barcelona in 2022 amid financial uncertainty surrounding the Spanish giants, but quickly became the focal point of the club’s rebuilding project under then-manager Xavi Hernandez.

His impact was immediate.

In his debut season, the Polish forward fired Barcelona to the La Liga title, winning the prestigious Pichichi Trophy as the league’s top scorer with 23 goals. He also became the first Barcelona player since Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazário in 1996/97 to score more than 30 goals in all competitions during his first season at the club.

Over four seasons at Camp Nou, Lewandowski scored 119 goals and registered 24 assists in 191 appearances for Barcelona, winning three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups.

Barcelona’s official statistics also show that the veteran striker enjoyed one of his finest individual campaigns under coach Hansi Flick, scoring 42 goals across all competitions during the 2025/26 season.

Beyond the trophies and goals, Lewandowski’s leadership and winning mentality were widely credited with helping restore belief inside a club struggling to emerge from the post-Lionel Messi era.

In his farewell message, the striker thanked Barcelona president Joan Laporta for giving him the opportunity to wear the famous Blaugrana shirt and declared that “Barça is back where it belongs.”

He also paid tribute to the supporters, saying he would never forget the love he received from fans from his very first days in Catalonia.

Reports in Spain indicate that Lewandowski’s final home appearance for Barcelona will come against Real Betis, a match expected to be filled with emotion as supporters bid farewell to one of the club’s modern greats.

While his next destination remains uncertain, speculation has already linked the prolific striker with potential moves outside Europe as Barcelona prepare for life after one of football’s deadliest finishers.
