Lawmakers Condemn Kano Explosions
The Senate Minority Whip, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, GOS, and a member of the House of Representatives, James Abiodun Faleke, have condemned Friday’s multiple bombings in Kano in which over 178 people lost their lives.
They also commiserated with the management and staff of Channels television over the death of a staff of the TV station, Enenche Akogwu, in the attacks.
Senator Solomon described attacks by Boko Haram, the Islamic sect which claimed responsibility for the attacks, as becoming too frequent, brazen and daring.
He called on the Federal Government to take decisive action against the sect.
“It is a sad irony that the Federal Government which deployed soldiers to Lagos with immediate alacrity has not been able to take any decisive action on the Boko Haram menace. The government should know that this is time for action,” Solomon said.
The Senate Minority Whip while condoling with Channels television on the death of its reporter, Enenye Akogwu, described the reporter’s death as a disaster. “A man killed in his prime and in the line of duty is a nothing short of a disaster. At this point in time, my heart goes out to his family and employers for losing such a resourceful and hardworking young man in his prime,” the Senator who represents Lagos West Senatorial District, said.
Faleke appealed to the government to be sincere in its handling of the Boko Haram issue.
“The government deployed soldiers against innocent Lagosians but it has not been able to take decisive action against Boko Haram. It shows that the government likes chasing shadows,” Faleke, Chairman, House Committee on anti-corruption, ethics and national values, said.
The former Chairman of Ojodu LCDA in Lagos also described Akogwu’s death as sad. “A young man killed so callously in the line of duty is rather unfortunate. May God grant his family and employers the fortitude to bear the loss,’ he said.
