A middle-aged man identified as Wale Sunday was lynched by an angry mob after he allegedly butchered two persons with a cutlass in Edo State.
The incident occurred on May 12, 2026, in Usen Community, Ovia South-West Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, who was believed to be under the influence of a substance known as Colos, reportedly attacked his victims with a sharp machete before he was eventually killed by the mob.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect stormed the street and beheaded the first person he encountered. He reportedly moved further into the area and killed a second victim with the weapon.
It was gathered that he also inflicted machete wounds on Osaro Aragbala, a member of the Edo State Security Corps, who attempted to stop him from carrying out further attacks.
The assailant was eventually subdued by other members of the corps. However, an angry mob reportedly overpowered the operatives and lynched him.
The Deputy Corps Commander, Operations, Edo State Security Corps, Richard Balogun, who confirmed the incident, described it as horrifying and disturbing.
The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikioedem, also confirmed the incident, disclosing that a bag belonging to the deceased assailant was recovered at the scene and that a substance suspected to be Colos was found inside it.
Ikioedem added that the remains of the three deceased persons were evacuated to a mortuary, while the injured security corps member was taken to hospital for treatment.
