Fresh details have emerged from the deadly school abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, revealing that a two-year-old girl is among the 46 pupils and teachers kidnapped by armed terrorists during coordinated attacks on schools and neighbouring communities.

Fresh details have emerged from the deadly school abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, revealing that a two-year-old girl is among the 46 pupils and teachers kidnapped by armed terrorists during coordinated attacks on schools and neighbouring communities.

Community leaders on Monday released the identities of the victims abducted during Friday’s invasion of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School, as fear and outrage continue to spread across Oyo State.

Among the abducted victims is two-year-old Christianah Akanbi, believed to be one of the youngest victims of a school kidnapping in recent years in Nigeria.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, also led to the abduction of seven teachers and 39 pupils from multiple communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

The incident has intensified national concern over the spread of terrorism and mass kidnappings into southern Nigeria, where such attacks were previously considered rare.

Governor Seyi Makinde has already confirmed that one of the abducted teachers was killed by the terrorists while rescue efforts were ongoing.

According to the governor, security agencies have arrested at least six suspects within the affected communities, while three additional persons of interest were apprehended by another security outfit.

Makinde also disclosed that some local informants may have assisted the attackers with logistics and intelligence.

“What we know right now is that seven teachers in all were abducted. Unfortunately, we got a video that one of the teachers was killed by the terrorists,” the governor said.

The governor further warned that increasing military pressure against terrorists in the North-West and North-East could force armed groups to migrate southward.

Human rights organisations and security analysts have described the latest abduction as another disturbing sign of Nigeria’s worsening school security crisis.

Amnesty International said more than 80 children were abducted in separate school attacks across Nigeria within one week alone.

The Oyo incident has also revived painful memories of previous mass school kidnappings in Nigeria, including the Chibok, Kagara and Papiri abductions that shocked the country and attracted global condemnation.

Community leaders disclosed that four motorcycles were also stolen during the raid.
