Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday appeared before the presidential screening panel of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, where he unveiled plans for sweeping economic and security reforms aimed at tackling Nigeria’s worsening challenges.

The former Vice President, during the screening exercise held in Abuja, assured party leaders and members that his administration would prioritise aggressive action against insecurity, economic decline and unemployment if elected president in 2027.

Details of the screening were contained in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Mr. Phrank Shaibu, who described the engagement as more than a routine internal party exercise.

According to the statement, the session provided Atiku an opportunity to present what he called practical and tested solutions for reviving Nigeria’s troubled economy and restoring national security.

Atiku expressed concern over rising kidnappings, killings and violent attacks across different parts of the country, warning that insecurity had continued to erode public confidence and weaken economic productivity.

He lamented that many Nigerians were battling severe hardship amid collapsing businesses, rising unemployment and declining investor confidence caused by inconsistent economic policies.

“Nigeria cannot continue on this path where hardship persists, businesses collapse and investors lose confidence because of policy uncertainty,” Atiku was quoted as saying.

The former presidential candidate explained that his economic agenda would focus heavily on job creation, private sector growth, fiscal discipline and stable macroeconomic policies capable of attracting sustainable local and foreign investments.

On security, Atiku promised to strengthen intelligence-driven operations, improve coordination among security agencies and pursue decentralised security reforms to combat criminal activities nationwide.

He also pledged decisive action against banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes threatening national stability.

“At this defining moment in our national life, Nigeria does not need experiments. It needs tested leadership and courage to make necessary national decisions,” he stated.

Atiku reaffirmed his commitment to building what he described as a secure, united and prosperous Nigeria where citizens could pursue opportunities freely without fear.
