He accused critics of attempting to weaken Kwankwaso’s growing political influence through misinformation, particularly within the emerging Nigerian Democratic Congress platform.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement has pushed back against allegations that its leader and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is indirectly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group described the suggestion as politically motivated and aimed at undermining Kwankwaso’s influence.
The controversy stemmed from comments made by the Director-General, Media and Publicity at the Kano State Government House, Sanusi Bature, during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday. He suggested that Kwankwaso’s political activities could eventually work in favour of President Tinubu.
Bature argued that while some politicians openly support the President, others may be doing so in less visible ways. He also claimed Kwankwaso had previously supported Tinubu during the 2023 elections.
In a swift response, the spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habeeb Saleh Mohammed, dismissed the allegations, describing them as unfounded and politically driven.
He said the comments were part of an attempt to create false narratives around Kwankwaso’s political direction.
According to him, Kwankwaso has consistently been transparent in his political engagements and has no covert alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He stressed that there had been no form of political collaboration between Kwankwaso and the APC, adding that any claim suggesting otherwise should be backed with evidence.
Mohammed further stated that the only known interaction between Kwankwaso and President Tinubu was a public meeting held years ago, insisting that nothing beyond that exists.
He accused critics of attempting to weaken Kwankwaso’s growing political influence through misinformation, particularly within the emerging Nigerian Democratic Congress platform.
He added that the movement was focused on its political path and would not be distracted by what he described as calculated attempts to distort public perception.
Mohammed also urged Nigerians to critically examine political claims being circulated, saying many were designed to mislead the public for partisan advantage.
He maintained that the Kwankwasiyya Movement remains committed to its political direction and is not aligned with the ruling party or the current administration.
