Former Governor Mohammed Abubakar on Friday shakes off a formidable challenge from former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar and four other aspirants to win the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for 2027.
Abubakar served as governor of Bauchi State from 2015 to 2019 on the APC platform.
He lost his re-election bid to Gov. Bala Mohammed of the PDP in the 2019 general election.
Abubakar now has the opportunity of contesting for another tenure as Bauchi governor with his victory in the primary for the APC gubernatorial ticket.
Abubakar polled 57,517 votes to defeat six other aspirants who participated in the primary election, John Bassey-Abang, Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Election Committee, announced on Saturday in Bauchi.
Bassey-Abang said the exercise was conducted on May 22.
According to him, Nura Manu-Soro scored 13,638 votes; Tuggar secured 26,001 votes; while Bala Wunti polled 13,648 votes;
Others were Kabir Baba-Ma’aji with 8,157 votes, while Baba Suleiman and Yakubu Abdullahi got 7,688 and 7,181 votes, respectively.
“Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, having secured the highest number of votes cast with a total of 57,517, is hereby returned as the winner of the APC governorship primary election in Bauchi State,” he declared.
The chairman also announced the results of the party’s State House of Assembly primaries, which were held on May 21.
