Hon. Oladipupo O. Adebutu has declared that he will defeat the incumbent opposition governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC Senator Olamilekan Adeola Solomon, popularly called (Yayi), in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election after emerging as the Peoples Democratic Party’s consensus candidate on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Speaking while delivering his acceptance speech in Abeokuta, Adebutu said the PDP was united behind his candidacy and expressed confidence that this time, he will be duly elected as the governor of Ogun state because the votes of the people will count.

“I believe in God that your votes will count and will put me in office as your duly elected Governor.”

The former House of Representatives member and PDP flag bearer in 2023 thanked party leaders, executives, and members for making him the consensus candidate again.

He alleged that the party won the 2023 election through the votes of electorates in Ogun but was dubiously manipulated but this time we will ensure all votes count.

“Though your votes were denied through manipulation, but the focus now was ensuring votes count in 2027.

Adebutu criticized the All Progressives Congress for governing Ogun State for over a decade and a half under different nomenclatures, accusing the administration of holding the state under siege while the people groan under hardship.

He said Ogun’s natural and human resources warranted better leadership and pledged that the PDP would rescue people of the state from suffering and maladministration.

Calling for unity within the party, he appealed to aspirants who stepped down for him to work together for the PDP’s success.

“There is no loser among us, we have all won for the party and for the good people of Ogun State,” he said.

He added that the party’s policy direction for the state would be unveiled in due course, and urged members to maintain peaceful conduct ahead of the election.

Also speaking at the event, the former governor of Ekiti State Mr Ayodele Fayose expressway enthusiasm for the turn up of party members from all the 20 LG in the state and encouraged them to keep the oneness going in the state.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the party, Chief Toyin Amuzu has said Adebutu, has the integrity and experience to lead Ogun state.

Amuzu, who is the PDP’s House of Representatives candidate for Abeokuta South in the 2027 coming election, made the remark on while congratulating Adebutu on his emergence as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election.

He described Adebutu as “a man of integrity, humility and proven leadership capacity,” citing his track record in youth empowerment, community development, and support for constituents through personal resources.

“Adebutu’s emergence is a welcome development for Ogun State. He is one of the most experienced and prepared politicians to lead at this critical time,” Amuzu said.

He added that Ogun needs a leader with credibility, honesty and a clear development plan.

He urged PDP members and residents to rally behind Adebutu ahead of the 2027 polls.

Amuzu expressed confidence that Adebutu’s candidacy would address key issues facing the state, including unemployment, insecurity and economic hardship.
