2027: Atiku meets Amaechi amid ADC reconciliation moves

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election, Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday held a meeting with his major rival in the party’s presidential primary, former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

The meeting comes shortly after the conclusion of the ADC presidential primary election, where Atiku emerged victorious over Amaechi and other aspirants to secure the party’s ticket for the 2027 presidential race.

Amaechi had earlier rejected the outcome of the primary before the official announcement of the results, alleging that the exercise was marred by irregularities and lacked fairness.

Despite the disagreement that followed the primary, Atiku, during his acceptance speech after emerging as the party’s flag bearer, appealed to Amaechi and other aggrieved members of the ADC to put aside their differences and work together in the interest of the party.

Although details of Thursday’s meeting were not immediately disclosed, political observers believe the visit may be part of ongoing reconciliation efforts within the ADC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Neither Atiku nor Amaechi had spoken publicly about the outcome of the meeting as of the time of filing this report.

The development has continued to attract reactions from party supporters and political analysts, especially as the ADC moves to strengthen internal unity ahead of the next general election.
