Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has again stated that she did not withdraw from the race for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senate seat under the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
In a post on her verified X account on Saturday, Yesufu asked media organizations to correct reports and headlines that suggested she stepped down from the contest.
She explained that she remained in the race until the end and never voluntarily withdrew.
According to her, the primary election that produced another candidate was flawed. However, she decided to accept the outcome to avoid causing division within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yesufu said her main focus is now the 2027 presidential election, which she described as more important. She added that she would support the candidate she believes is best for the country.
She wrote:
“I did not quit. I did not step down. Correct your headlines. A flawed primary was conducted and someone else was declared. I reject the narrative that I quit.
“I chose to accept a flawed outcome for the greater good of the party and the nation rather than create divisions when a bigger political battle lies ahead.”
Yesufu maintained that while she disagrees with how the primary was conducted, accepting the result does not mean she abandoned her ambition voluntarily.
