A 32-year-old security guard has landed in police custody after he was allegedly caught transporting motor spare parts belonging to his employer in what investigators suspect was a planned theft operation.
The suspect, identified as Friday Ayuba, was arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command after he was intercepted at the Sagamu Interchange axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while allegedly attempting to move the company’s property without authorisation.
Police said the arrest followed a complaint lodged by the manager of the affected company located at Ita-Asu Village, near Owode-Egba, who reported the incident to the Owode-Egba Divisional Headquarters on May 30.
According to the police, Ayuba, who worked as a security guard for the company, was apprehended by operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) before the matter was transferred to the division for further investigation.
A preliminary search reportedly uncovered several motor spare parts believed to have been removed from the company’s premises.
Items recovered from the suspect include four air controls, two air boosters, two engine seats and two fuel pumps, all of which were identified by the company as its property.
Investigators said the suspect allegedly confessed to the theft during interrogation, prompting detectives to visit the company premises for further inquiries and documentation.
The recovered items have since been secured as exhibits, while the suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.
Police authorities said he would be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the vigilance of the company’s management and the swift response of the Quick Response Squad and officers of the Owode-Egba Division, whose actions led to the recovery of the items and the suspect’s arrest.
The police boss reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding businesses and critical assets across the state through proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations.
He also urged employers and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
