A 36-year-old man, Kennedy Mburuche, on Monday appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged assault of a personnel of the Eko Elelctricity Distribution Company.

Mburuche, who was arraigned before Magistrate O.M. Ogun, on a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor,  Esther Adesulu told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 22, at James Oyelekan Street in Ilogbo, Ajangbadi in Lagos

She alleged that the defendant assaulted one Mudashiru Yusuf, a staff of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) in the cause of performing his lawful duty.

The prosecutor said that Mburuche also caused a breach of peace by threatening the complainant’s life with a broken bottles and stone, thereby causing fear.

The offences, Adesulu said, contravened the provisions of sections 168 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum

Magistrate Ogun subsequently adjourned the case until June 15, for mention. (NAN)
