American actress Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, has reacted to the season finale of the seven year long series, Euphoria.
The show created by Sam Levinson finally came to an end on Sunday, stirring mixed reactions from fans and viewers.
Zendaya explained, while speaking in a behind-the scene look at the last episode that she is grateful for the love her character, Rue, received since the start of the series.
“I just want to say thank you. I’m incredibly grateful for every single one of you, and many of you have been here from the beginning and watched me grow up. It’s been a pleasure and an honor. Thank you so much,” she said.
Sam on the other hand, reflected on Zendaya’s character and the tragic ending she got. He explained that he wanted to portray grief and the struggle individuals have with addiction.
“Zendaya’s performance has been so wonderful and layered over the course of these seasons. We fell in love with this character, this girl who’s flawed, f–ked up, and has a good heart and is trying to do right, at least sometimes. It’s a blessing to work with talented people and people that you love. In the end I wanted to tell an honest story about addiction. I also wanted to tell a story about grief and the emotional turmoil that it can create. This is a real show about a real problem that we have in this country, and that’s addiction. People relapse, they f–k up, they’re not ready to get clean, and they weren’t dying like they are now with the influx of fentanyl into this country. I can say with absolute certainty that if I was going through what I went through when I was younger now I wouldn’t be here either,” he stated.
He also dedicated the film to Angus Cliud, a cast member who passed on in 2023 due to a drug overdose.
”I wanted to tell this story for Angus, and for people who weren’t granted a second chance,” he added.
