Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said President Bola Tinubu has no serious challenger ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Fayose said the opposition had weakened itself by splitting into different parties instead of forming one united front against the President.
Speaking on Channels Television, the former governor said the 2027 race would not be as difficult for Tinubu as many Nigerians think.
According to him, noise on social media should not be mistaken for political reality.
“Nobody is contesting against Tinubu. You may not like to hear this. There is a difference between reality and noise on social media,” Fayose said.
His comment comes amid growing public concern over insecurity, hunger and economic hardship across the country.
Nigeria has continued to face security challenges in several states, including parts of Oyo, Kwara and the North.
Despite this, several politicians have emerged as presidential hopefuls ahead of 2027, including Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, Peter Obi of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, Seyi Makinde of the Allied People Movement, Dumebi Kachikwu of the ADC, Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement and Omoyele Sowore.
Some political observers believe the number of candidates, especially from the South-West and opposition blocs, could affect Tinubu’s chances in the next election.
But Fayose dismissed the suggestion, insisting that the opposition had already damaged its own chances.
“If the opposition coalition had remained together and were to be in one party against Tinubu, I will say Tinubu will get a run for his money,” he said.
He said the emergence of different opposition platforms, including the NDC and ADC, had made Tinubu’s path easier.
According to him, the same opposition that once accused Tinubu of trying to create a one-party state had now divided itself into too many parties.
“Initially, they were saying Tinubu was pushing for a one-party state. Now there are so many parties. They have destroyed their journey by themselves,” Fayose said.
The former governor recalled that Tinubu won the 2023 election despite facing Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in what he described as a major three-horse race.
He said the President would again benefit from a divided opposition in 2027.
“You remember that when Atiku and Obi contested, it was a major three-horse race and Tinubu had his way. I’m telling you again, Tinubu will have his way with ease,” he added.
