“I have one vote to myself when the time comes. I might even vote for Sowore; there are other guys coming up who I believe would handle Nigeria better,” he added.

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has said he may vote for activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, in the 2027 presidential election, after ruling out support for the major political blocs.

Lawal spoke during an interview with TVC following his resignation from the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

The former SGF said he had eliminated the All Progressives Congress, APC, the ADC and the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, from the list of parties he could support in 2027.

His position also appeared to shut the door against the camps of President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the possible Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso arrangement being discussed ahead of the poll.

Asked whether he considered an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket a viable alternative, Lawal said the available options did not inspire confidence.

“I found myself between the devil and the devil. Whatever I choose, I end up with the devil, meaning that as bad as Bola Tinubu is now, Atiku will be a worse president,” he said.

Lawal, however, insisted that his criticism of Tinubu and Atiku should not be taken as endorsement of any other politician.

“It doesn’t mean I have to support anybody. I have retired from politics; I am not canvassing for anybody,” he said.

The former SGF said he would still exercise his right to vote, but had not settled for any candidate.

“I have one vote to myself when the time comes. I might even vote for Sowore; there are other guys coming up who I believe would handle Nigeria better,” he added.

On the parties he would not support, Lawal said: “At least, I’ve made a choice to eliminate. I have eliminated APC, now I have eliminated ADC and I can tell you categorically that I have eliminated NDC.”

Lawal recently resigned from the ADC after alleging that the party’s presidential primary was manipulated in favour of Atiku.

He accused the party leadership of compromising the process and claimed that results were altered to favour the former vice president.

The ADC has denied the allegations.
