Social commentator and Nigerian media personality, Solomon Buchi has reacted to gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori’s remarks over the growth of insecurity in the country.
The gospel singer, who urged Nigerians to be more fervent in prayer towards the issue of insecurity, received heavy backlash from many Nigerians. Some called her out for being insensitive towards the pain of the victims.
Solomon Buchi, in a recent video, argued that some religious leaders and gospel ministers have become too closely associated with political figures, making it difficult for them to speak objectively on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.
”Just because you added some mellow music in the background, doesn’t mean what you’re saying makes sense. It doesn’t mean you know what you are saying. Some of you gospel ministers and even pastors are sellouts. You have sold your conscience to politicians. You have them donating to your programs and to your ministry and to the things that you are doing so it is very easy for you to come on social media and be saying, ‘oh no the president and vice president are working. You know they are working. Because you lack conscience. They are working and children have been kidnapped for the past two weeks. Do you know that in other counties some lost dog can be found in 24 hours than children in Nigeria?,” he stated.
Buchi also stressed the need for practical leadership and accountability, stating that spiritual devotion alone cannot be the solution.
”I mean this very respectfully. I am a Christian and I believe in prayers but prayers will not do for us what God has given us the ability to do for us. Policy making is not the product of prayers. China is not developed by prayer, Dubai is not developed by prayer. The places you guys go for holiday was not developed by prayer,” he added.
