Pilgrims Blame NIPOST For Late Delivery Of Luggage
Some pilgrims from Bauchi State who performed last year’s pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia have expressed concern over the delayed arrival of their luggage sent home through the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).
In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi, the pilgrims said they were worried that months after the conclusion of the pilgrimage, their luggage had yet to be delivered to them.
One of the pilgrims, Dr. Mohammed Chindo, the Director-General, Bauchi State Ministry for Higher Education, said he never expected such a delay when he decided to patronise NIPOST.
“I returned from Saudi Arabia two months ago. Out of my three bags, I have received just one; the delay is too much,” he said.
Another pilgrim, Adamu Ahmed, complained that such a development could discourage him from patronising NIPOST in the future.
Mrs. Ladidi Madaki, a civil servant who also performed the pilgrimage more than two months ago, said she was informed that her luggage would be delivered within “three weeks” only for her to still be waiting more than two months after.
“My fear is that if my luggage gets missing, it will be difficult to trace.”
Madaki, therefore, called on NIPOST to hasten the delivery of their luggage for the agency to win back the confidence of its customers.
Responding to the complaints, the Area Postal Manager of NIPOST in Bauchi, Mr. Musa Dauda, said the delay was as a result of the just concluded nationwide strike and street protests.
He said that some of the parcels had arrived in Lagos but could not be transported to Bauchi due to the strike.
According to Dauda, “two trucks are on their way to Bauchi and will arrive soon.”
