Newcastle United have joined Brighton & Hove Albion in the race to sign highly-rated Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohanna from Swedish club AIK.
Brighton were initially considered the frontrunners for the 18-year-old winger after submitting a €23 million bid last weekend. However, Newcastle have now stepped up their interest by tabling a slightly higher offer worth €24 million.
According to reports, AIK are currently in discussions with both Premier League clubs as they weigh up the proposals for one of their brightest young talents.
Yohanna has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the Swedish top flight this season, establishing himself as a key member of AIK’s first team despite his young age. The winger has registered two goals and three assists in just seven league appearances, attracting attention from several clubs across Europe.
His impressive performances have sparked growing interest in the teenager, who is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most promising young footballers.
Yohanna joined AIK from Nigeria’s Ikon Allah Football Academy last year and has adapted quickly to life in Sweden. His pace, creativity and attacking ability have made him a standout performer, with scouts from top European clubs closely monitoring his development.
With both Newcastle and Brighton eager to strengthen their squads with young talent, the battle for Yohanna’s signature is expected to intensify in the coming weeks as negotiations continue with AIK.
