The Edo Government delegation on Thursday visited and provided material support to Benin Technical College students injured during the 2026 Children’s Day celebration at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
The delegation, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Enodolomwanyi Otamere, visited the homes of the affected students.
Otamere conveyed the government’s goodwill and presented a token of support to the families.
He noted that the purpose of the visit was to assess the well-being of the students, sympathise with their families, and reaffirm government’s support.
He disclosed that a panel of inquiry had been constituted to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and recommend preventive measures to avert future occurrences.
The students visited were Elizabeth Sunday, Mary Bai, and Rejoice Igene, all from the Business Department of Benin Technical College.
The students, who sustained varying degrees of injuries during the incident, had since received medical treatment and been discharged from the hospital.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Edo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (EdoBTVET) Mrs. Onomen Briggs, assured the families that students’ safety remained a priority.
Briggs said that measures would be strengthened to protect students within schools and during government-organised activities.
Speaking on behalf of the families, Mrs Sunday Victoria, Mr Friday Igiebor, and Mrs Patience Joy commended Gov. Monday Okpebholo for his prompt intervention.
