Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has expressed disappointment following Nigeria’s draw with Poland, insisting that the team did enough to have claimed all three points in the encounter.
Speaking after the match, the Fulham centre-back admitted that Nigeria’s inability to see out both halves, after conceding late goals, exposed areas that still need improvement within the squad.
He stressed that maintaining concentration until the final whistle remains a key lesson for the team as they continue to develop their chemistry and tactical understanding.
Bassey further highlighted the challenges faced in camp preparation, noting that the squad did not have a full complement of players in training leading up to the game.
According to him, several players arrived at different times, while some only joined the team a day before the match, limiting the amount of time available for proper tactical drills and cohesion-building.
Despite the result, the defender maintained a positive outlook, explaining that the game still served an important purpose in giving players valuable minutes on the pitch together.
He added that such matches are crucial for building rhythm, understanding teammates’ movements, and improving overall team coordination ahead of future fixtures.
Bassey concluded that while the draw was not the ideal outcome, the experience gained would be useful as the team continues preparations and works toward stronger performances in upcoming matches.
