US President, Donald Trump, has claimed that Iran retains only about 21 to 22 per cent of its missile arsenal following months of military exchanges and regional tensions.
Speaking in an interview with NBC News on Friday, Trump said Iran still possesses some missiles and drones but its overall military capability has been significantly reduced.
“They still have capacity. They have some missiles, they have some drones. I would say, percentage-wise, maybe 21 or 22 per cent of their missiles,” Trump said.
The latest estimate is slightly higher than the 18 per cent figure Trump cited in May. The US leader has repeatedly maintained that Iran’s military infrastructure has suffered extensive damage.
Meanwhile, tensions in the Gulf region remain high despite efforts to maintain a fragile ceasefire.
Iran’s military on Friday claimed it fired “warning missiles” toward two US destroyers operating in the Gulf of Oman. However, the US military dismissed the claim.
Earlier this week, Kuwait announced that it intercepted 30 ballistic missiles, describing the launches as part of what it called “heinous Iranian aggression.”
The developments come amid ongoing concerns over regional security and the possibility of renewed hostilities involving Iran and its neighbours.
