A 32-year-old man has been charged with murder following an assault that left Taiwo Ekerin, a 41-year-old Nigerian man, dead in Lewisham, London.

Police were called at around 4:40 a.m. on Sunday, 24 May, to Lewisham High Street after reports of an altercation.

Officers found Ekerin with a serious head injury. He was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service and taken to hospital, where he sadly died on Saturday, 30 May.

Maxwell Oguanaya, 32, of Eastfield Road, Enfield, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday, 4 June.

He was charged on Friday, 5 June, appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court the same day, and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear again on Tuesday, 9 June.

A second man, 34, was also arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
