The Osun State Police Command has launched investigation into the shooting incidents that occurred on Tuesday in some parts of the state which resulted in injuries to a number of people.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said following reports of the incidents, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips, immediately directed the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) alongside the department of operations and intelligence units of the command to commence a thorough investigation aimed at arresting, and prosecuting those responsible.
Ojelabi assured residents that necessary steps were in place to prevent a reoccurrence and secure life and property in the state.
“The Command wishes to reassure residents that all necessary steps have been taken as normalcy has been restored to the areas and measures have been implemented to prevent any recurrence.
“Security has been reinforced in the affected areas, while intensive intelligence-led operations are ongoing to fish out the perpetrators and their sponsors regardless of societal or political status.
“The injured victims were promptly evacuated to medical facilities by our officers for treatment and are currently responding positively to medical care.
“The Commissioner of Police urges members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding. Citizens with useful information that can aid the ongoing investigation are encouraged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Command through its emergency channels, all information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality.
”The Osun State Police Command remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and will not relent in its efforts to ensure that those behind these criminal acts are brought to justice.
”The Command further warns individuals and groups against taking the law into their own hands or engaging in any act capable of threatening the peace and security of the State,” the statement said.
