The presidency has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will deliver a national address tomorrow, Friday, June 12, in commemoration of Democracy Day.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy to the President announced this in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, the national address by Tinubu will air on the network of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) at 7:00 a.m.

Onanuga therefore advised all television and radio stations link up with the broadcast.

Meanwhile, Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has urged Nigerians to uphold democratic values and prioritise national development.

Adediran, popularly known as Jandor made the call in his Democracy Day message on Thursday in Lagos, reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic journey and its future prospects.

He said democracy could only flourish when leaders remained committed to the common good, the rule of law and citizens’ welfare.

“The strength of any democracy lies in the commitment of its leaders to the common good, the rule of law and the welfare of the people.

“It also depends on citizens’ observance of civic responsibility and dedication to democratic values.

“Both leaders and citizens have important roles to play in sustaining democratic governance,” he said.

Adediran described June 12 as a defining moment in Nigeria’s political history and a symbol of the people’s struggle for democratic governance.

According to him, the date remains a reminder of the sacrifices made by patriots who fought for justice and democratic rule.

“June 12 occupies a unique place in Nigeria’s political history as a symbol of the people’s collective struggle for democratic governance, justice and the sanctity of the ballot.

“It serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by patriots who stood firmly for democratic ideals and ultimately paved the way for democracy.”

He urged Nigerians to place nation-building above personal interests and partisan considerations as the country marks another Democracy Day.

“As we commemorate this historic day, it is important for all of us to place nation-building above personal interests and partisan considerations,” he said.

The APC chieftain also called on young Nigerians to become more actively involved in politics and governance.

He said youths possessed the numerical strength and capacity to influence governance and drive meaningful change across the country.

“From party membership and policy engagement to electoral participation and public service, young people must take ownership of the nation’s future.

“Given Nigeria’s predominantly youthful population and significant voting strength, they possess the capacity to influence governance.

“They can also drive meaningful change across the country through active participation in democratic processes,” he said.

Adediran commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as courageous leadership and bold policy decisions.

He said the President’s actions were aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable economic growth and national development.

“We must commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for demonstrating courage through bold policy decisions.

“He has provided transformational leadership aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable economic growth and national development.

“The efforts are focused on building a stronger and more prosperous nation,” he said.

Adediran also praised the President and security agencies for intensifying efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.

He urged citizens to remain hopeful, united and committed to democratic governance despite prevailing national challenges.

“As the nation marks another Democracy Day, citizens should remain hopeful, united and committed to democracy, good governance and national development,” he said.

He expressed optimism that collective commitment to democratic ideals would help build a safer, stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
