LASTMA Arrests 24 For Driving Against Traffic

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, have arrested twenty four motorists for driving against traffic on Oshodi-Apapa expressway.

Tahose arrested and their vehicles impounded include customs officers, immigration officials, soldiers, police officers and commuter bus drivers.

They were arrested between Cele Bus Stop and Ijesha Bus Stop.

The operation was led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Oladapo Afolayan.

Commenting on the arrests, an official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Alhaji Alimi Ajani, commended the traffic enforcement officers. “The action of LASTMA in arresting these people for driving against the traffic and ensuring free flow of traffic on the highway is commendable and those arrested must face the full wrath of the law. Look at the customs officers, immigration, soldiers and police officers taking One Way. It is sad. Those that are to educate us on how to obey the law are the ones breaking it,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of LASTMA, Mr. Young Arebamen, explained that “the law is no respecter of persons. No matter who you are, if you flout the law, you will be arrested.”

The Public Relations Officer of LASTMA, Mr. Richard Omolase said traffic officials will continue to arrest offenders, adding, “there is zero tolerance for those taking One Way and preventing free flow of traffic.”
