Governor Chukwuma Soludo has appealed to residents of Anambra State to assist the government in identifying individuals posing as religious leaders while engaging in unlawful activities.

The call was made in a statement released on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, who said the state government was intensifying efforts to rid Anambra of criminal elements operating under the guise of religion and traditional practices.

According to Mefor, the Soludo administration has put in place measures aimed at confronting fake pastors and dubious native doctors as part of a wider campaign to improve public safety and strengthen law and order across the state.

“The government is calling on Ndi Anambra and all residents of the state with credible information on pastors, churches, or so-called ‘men of God’ involved in criminality, extortion, fraud, deception, or any act that endangers lives and the peace of our communities, to please speak up,” Mefor said.

He explained that the initiative forms part of the government’s broader resolve to cleanse the religious and traditional worship space of practices that encourage criminal conduct or exploit unsuspecting members of the public.

The commissioner stressed that residents who come forward with useful information have nothing to fear, assuring them that their identities would be protected.

“Let us work together to take back our state from criminals hiding under religion, culture, and tradition,” he said.
