Our Grudge Against Ekeji- House Committee On Sports
Ken Chikere, a member of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Sports has disclosed that the reason the Committee is drilling the Director General of National Sports Commission, NSC, Patrick Ekeji, is to fight against cooked up figures and non implementation of budget for sports by the authority.
The lawmaker representing Port Harcourt said he and other members of the Committee believe that the budget for sports must make impact on the lives of Nigerian sportsmen and women as well as reflects positively on the position of the country in the comity of nations in the world, and not just necessarily going through rituals of submitting project proposals shrouded in cooked up figures.
“It is high time budget on sports have impact on what it is meant for not people saddled with the responsibility of managing our sports coming up with figures that cannot be back up with good things we call see on ground,” Chikere said.
Chikere said that the Committee is determined to ensure that the days of cooking up figures as budget will be over; adding that budget that will have a tangible return on the populace is what the Committee will approve.
“Our discussion with the NSC is for the sports authority to give the Committee better information for us to approve a budget for sports that will serve the people of Nigeria effectively,” he said.
