United States President Donald Trump has warned that the US could carry out more air strikes on Iran if Tehran fails to stop Hezbollah from escalating tensions in Lebanon.

Trump made the statement on Sunday through a post on his Truth Social platform as peace talks between senior US and Iranian officials got underway in Switzerland.

The negotiations come amid recent clashes between the Israeli military and Hezbollah, the Iran-backed group operating in southern Lebanon.

In his message, Trump said Iran must immediately rein in Hezbollah and prevent the group from creating further instability in the region.

“Iran must immediately stop their highly paid proxies in Lebanon from causing trouble. If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder,” Trump wrote.

The warning comes despite a memorandum of understanding signed earlier between the United States and Iran, which calls for a halt to hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon.

The latest remarks from Trump have raised concerns about the fragile peace efforts, as diplomats continue discussions aimed at preventing further conflict in the Middle East.
