DIG Fayoade reaffirms commitment to professional policing during duty tour of Osun State Command

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Force Headquarters, Abuja who double as supervising DIG for South-West Zone, DIG Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke, psc, mnim, mni, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to sustaining peace, strengthening public confidence, and ensuring effective policing across Osun State.
Speaking during his official duty tour to the Osun State Police Command, the DIG conveyed the goodwill of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM and commended the command for its dedication to maintaining a relatively peaceful, serene environment in the state.
Addressing officers and men, stakeholders, and members of the media, DIG Adegoke described the visit as both official and personally significant, noting his connection to Osun State while emphasizing that his foremost responsibility remains the safety and security of all residents.
The DIG acknowledged recent security concerns, particularly cult-related incidents recorded during the current electioneering period, but expressed confidence in the proactive operational efforts of the command, including the recovery of arms and ammunition and other measures aimed at preventing criminal activities and preserving public order.
He commended the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips, for providing purposeful leadership and steering the command toward notable operational successes.
He also praised officers and men of the command for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to duty.
Reiterating the position of the Nigeria Police Force during the democratic process, DIG Adegoke stressed that the Force remains a professional and apolitical institution guided strictly by the Constitution and the rule of law.
“Our allegiance is to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not to any political interest. Officers must remain impartial, disciplined, and professional in the discharge of their responsibilities,” Fayoade admonished.
The DIG further appreciated the Government of Osun State, particularly the support facilitated through the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, including the provision of operational vehicles and other interventions that have strengthened policing capacity across the state.
In attendance were the National Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (NARPON) Osun State Chapter, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and other critical stakeholders.
The DIG commended them for their continued partnership in promoting community-based policing, improving intelligence gathering, and strengthening public trust in the Police.
Calling for sustained collaboration, DIG Adegoke encouraged traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, religious institutions, civil society organisations, and residents to continue supporting security efforts through timely and credible information sharing.
He charged Officers and Men of the Command to remain vigilant, strengthen intelligence gathering, sustain inter-agency collaboration, and continue building public confidence through professional conduct.
DIG Adegoke concluded by reaffirming that the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, remains committed to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and advancing public safety across Osun State.
Likewise, the DIG visited the Ataoja of Osogbo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, Larooye II. He used the monarch as point of contact to appreciate all the traditional rulers in Osun State for their “unalloyed support and cooperation with the Police Command and other security agencies in the State.”
He assured the traditional ruler that, the IGP has deployed additional policemen to Osun to curtail the security situation in the state.
He condoled with the families of the deceased and emphasized that, nothing would interfere or disturb the relative peace been enjoyed in the state.
