The group’s Director-General, Dr. Bode Olaonipekun, made this known during the official launch of the movement in Abuja.

A group called Renewed Hope for the Elderly, which supports the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has announced plans to help secure 24 million votes for him in the 2027 presidential election.

The group’s Director-General, Dr. Bode Olaonipekun, made this known during the official launch of the movement in Abuja.

According to him, the target will be achieved by mobilising elderly Nigerians across the country to support President Tinubu and his policies aimed at improving the lives of senior citizens.

Olaonipekun said the organisation was created to promote the welfare, dignity, and inclusion of older Nigerians who have long faced challenges such as poor healthcare, inadequate social protection, loneliness, and financial difficulties after retirement.

He noted that the Tinubu administration has shown greater commitment to the welfare of elderly citizens through programmes and policies designed to improve their quality of life.

The group believes that the strengthening of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that older Nigerians can age with dignity and receive adequate support.

Olaonipekun stressed that caring for elderly citizens should not be seen as an act of charity but as a national responsibility and an important public policy.

He explained that the movement plans to bring together pensioners, retirees, traditional rulers, religious organisations, professional bodies, community groups, and families across Nigeria to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.

According to him, the organisation will also encourage Nigerians to assess government policies and reforms affecting older persons when making decisions during the 2027 elections.

The group further praised initiatives introduced by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, including gardening, small-scale farming, and environmentally friendly projects aimed at supporting elderly citizens.

Olaonipekun said these programmes help improve food security, generate income, encourage physical activity, and promote mental well-being among older Nigerians.

He expressed confidence that with increased support from senior citizens and other stakeholders, the movement would play a major role in President Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027.
