Pastor Seeks Divorce From Stubborn Wife
A Latter Rain Assembly Church pastor, Ilori Samuel Opeyemi, has dragged his wife of seven years, Abimbola Kikelomo before an Agege Customary Court, accusing her of slapping him and threatening his life with knife at any slightest provocation.
The divorce seeking Lagos State Polytechnic lecturer, a resident of 4, Akinsowon Close, Ogba, stated in the divorce suit number AGCC/106/2011, that the union lacks love, respect and trust, adding that the best decision for him is to divorce his violent wife.
Ilori told the court that it has been six years of harrowing experience living with his wife, as she often attacked him violently once there was any misunderstanding between them.
He said that there was a day the she hit him below the belt and he fainted, only to be revived by his landlord and neighbours’ several hours later.
“If I try to tell her that the house is untidy and needed to be kept clean, there is bound to be trouble; in fact, she flares up most times and replies me with hot slaps,” he said.
Pastor Ilori in an emotion laden words mixed with regrets, said he wouldn’t have married Kikelomo in the first instance but when the Lord and Holy Spirit revealed to him that she was pregnant and was about to abort the pregnancy, he had no choice than to consummate the marriage.
“We met in 2004 and became husband and wife a year later, but not long after our marriage, I started receiving a slap on daily basis from her, I thought it was a joke but I was wrong and since then, it has become a daily ocurrence,” he claimed.
He thereafter pleaded with the court to grant his divorce prayer and also wants the court to grant him custody of the only child of the marriage.
Kikelomo, while reacting to the allegations against her, informed the court that Pastor Ilori beats her always to the extent that she once threatened him with a knife as a form of defense when it was glaring that he wanted to beat her to death.
She said her husband has stopped eating food prepared by her and has also stopped having sex with her eight months ago and yet accused her of infidelity while he frolics with his students.
“He used to call his numerous girlfriends in my presence. The condoms he used to sleep with them litters everywhere in the house and I have my evidence. I don’t know what I did to him that he his hell bent on sending me out of this marriage.
“He doesn’t like taking us to church in his car but prefers to be alone rather than being with members of his household,” she told the court.
She said she has been thrown out of her matrimonial home on several occasions just because her husband wanted to marry another woman.
The court, after listening to both parties, concluded that the marriage has broken down completely.
The court mandated Ilori to rent an accommodation for Kike and provide monthly feeding allowance for their child while the matter was adjourned till February 8 for judgement.
