The Osun State Police Command has clarified the reason for the transfer of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dada Estate Division and warned against misinformation.

According to a press release signed by the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi on Sunday evening, the transfer was part of a routine exercise at the command.

The Chairman of the Accord Party in the state, Pastor Victor Akande, had in a statement, accused the state’s police command of redeploying the DPO following his response to the recent Okinni incident.

The police debunked this notion and warned against politicisation of security operations in the state.

‎The police said: “The Osun State Police Command wishes to set the record straight regarding a statement credited to Pastor Victor Akande, Chairman of the Osun Accord, dated 28 June 2026, alleging that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dada Estate Division was transferred as a result of his response to a recent incident in Okinni and his concern for the victims.

“The Command categorically states that this claim is false, misleading, and capable of creating unnecessary tension among members of the public.

‎”For the avoidance of doubt, the transfer of Divisional Police Officers is part of a routine administrative reshuffling involving about twenty (20) DPOs across the State Command.

“This exercise was carried out as part of a strategic operational review aimed at enhancing policing effectiveness, introducing fresh operational approaches, and proactively addressing emerging security challenges across the state.

“The Command therefore advises members of the public to disregard any attempt to link the transfer of any police officer to ongoing investigations or political considerations.

“‎Furthermore, the Osun State Police Command expresses deep concern over the growing tendency of some political actors to politicise every security-related issue in the state. In this regard, the Command issues a strong warning to political party chairmen, spokespersons, campaign directors-general, and other political stakeholders to desist from making reckless, unfounded, and inflammatory statements capable of undermining public confidence in security institutions or interfering with ongoing investigations.

“‎The Command views attempts to distort facts for political advantage as irresponsible and detrimental to public peace and security. Such conduct will not be tolerated, and individuals found spreading falsehoods or engaging in acts capable of inciting public disorder will be held accountable in accordance with the law.

“‎The incident that occurred in Okinni remains under active investigation. The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, has directed a swift, thorough, professional, and non-partisan investigation into the matter to ensure that all facts are established and justice is served.

‎”The Command remains committed to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property and assures residents of Osun State that all policing activities will continue to be carried out without fear, favour, bias, or political influence.”

‎The command urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and allow police to carry out their lawful duties, including investigations, without undue interference or politicisation.
