Youth football talent on display as Fortune FA claim JOF Cup

Fortune Football Academy of Oshodi were crowned champions of the 7th edition of the JOF U-13 Cup Football Tournament after defeating FC VI-Foot Football Academy of Ijora 3-1 on penalties in a thrilling final held at the University of Lagos Sports Centre on Sunday.

Despite heavy rainfall that left the pitch waterlogged, both teams produced an entertaining contest and showed remarkable determination, skill and resilience. The difficult playing conditions did not stop the young footballers from displaying their talents before a large crowd of spectators and invited guests.

The final ended goalless after regulation time, with neither side able to find the breakthrough. As a result, the winner was decided through a penalty shootout, where Fortune FA held their nerve to convert three spot-kicks and secure the championship.

In the third-place playoff, Soccer City Football Academy of Iwaya defeated Ultimate Football Academy 1-0 to finish third in the competition.

The tournament organisers rewarded the four best teams for their performances. Champions Fortune FA received a cash prize of N750,000, while runners-up FC VI-Foot went home with N500,000. Third-placed Soccer City FA earned N350,000, while Ultimate FA received N250,000.

Individual awards were also presented to players who stood out during the competition. Okoroma Destiny of FC VI-Foot emerged as the tournament’s highest goal scorer. Fortune FA midfielder Odesola Odunayo was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his impressive displays throughout the tournament, while his teammate, Alabi Faruk, won the Best Goalkeeper award.

Speaking after the final, Chairman of JOF Nigeria Limited, Segun Olugboyegun, expressed satisfaction with the quality of football displayed by the young players.

He said the tournament was created to provide a platform for talented youngsters to develop their abilities and pursue their dreams in an organised environment.

According to him, the players demonstrated discipline, commitment and passion throughout the competition, qualities that could help them achieve success in the future. He also commended the coaches, parents and officials whose efforts contributed to the smooth organisation of the tournament.

Olugboyegun reaffirmed his commitment to the competition, describing the JOF U-13 Cup as a legacy project aimed at nurturing future football stars and promoting grassroots football development in Nigeria.

The final ceremony attracted several prominent guests from the business, banking and public sectors, who attended despite the adverse weather conditions to support the young footballers and celebrate another successful edition of the tournament.
