Police operatives have arrested five suspected cultist members of the Aye Confraternity during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Ago/Festac Bridge axis of Lagos State.

SP Abimbola Adebisi, the spokesperson for Lagos Police Command announced this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to her, two of the suspects identified as Emmanuel John and David Godwin were arrested when the operatives intercepted their car and conducted a search which led to the recovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs on them.

“During preliminary interrogation, both suspects confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity,” Adebisi said in the statement.

The Lagos police spokesperson added that further investigation led to the arrest of three suspected cult members identified as Samuel Owubokiri, Adetona Seyi and David Chigozie.

She added that that military camouflage, two machetes, one battle axe, one knife, 500 SIM cards, five mobile phones, five laptops, charms, and various substances suspected to be hard drugs were recovered from them as exhibits.

She added that the suspects also confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity.

Adebisi quoted Lagos Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, as reassuring residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes across the State.

Fatai also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to the Police to aid crime prevention and enhance public safety.
