The agency also revealed that a recent international operation involving investigators from Brazil, Canada, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain, the United States and Europol led to the identification of more than 150 offenders and victims.

British authorities have announced a major breakthrough in the fight against organised drug-facilitated sexual abuse after uncovering an international network of offenders who used online platforms to plan, coordinate and share evidence of sexual crimes against women.

The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) said investigators have identified more than 270 individuals linked to an online forum and related platforms since October 2025. Intelligence gathered during the investigation has been shared with police forces in Britain and abroad, resulting in at least 14 separate investigations.

The agency also revealed that a recent international operation involving investigators from Brazil, Canada, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain, the United States and Europol led to the identification of more than 150 offenders and victims. The operation also triggered over 270 new international investigations and uncovered four previously unknown online communities linked to the crimes.

According to the NCA, offenders used encrypted online platforms to exchange advice on sedating victims, arrange assaults, encourage others to participate in attacks and distribute images and videos of the abuse. Investigators warned that many victims were targeted by people they knew and trusted, with some remaining unaware of the assaults because they had been rendered unconscious through drugs or alcohol.

Deputy Director of the NCA, Nigel Leary, described the findings as deeply disturbing.

“This type of sexual offending is deeply traumatic, and our focus has been and continues to be on the victims and those impacted, ensuring they are identified and offered the help and support they need.”

He added: “Drug facilitated sexual assault is no longer isolated behaviour, but increasingly organised, conducted via coordinated networks and enabled by digital platforms, requiring a more sophisticated operational response.”

The agency said technology has become a key tool for offenders, enabling them to reinforce criminal behaviour, recruit like-minded individuals and coordinate abuse across national borders. Authorities believe the true scale of the offending is likely to be far greater because many cases go unreported.

British police, prosecutors, health services and specialist support organisations have now established a coordinated national response aimed at identifying victims, disrupting criminal networks and bringing perpetrators to justice. Officials urged anyone who suspects they may have been a victim of drug-facilitated sexual assault to seek help, even if they have no clear memory or evidence of the incident.
