Lionel Messi has expressed gratitude to God after inspiring Argentina to another FIFA World Cup final, saying he can no longer ask for more following his remarkable football journey.

The Argentina captain produced another masterclass as the defending champions came from behind to defeat England 2-1 in the semi-final, with Messi providing two late assists to send La Albiceleste into Sunday’s final against Spain.

Speaking after the dramatic victory, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner described the occasion as one that transcended football.

“This was beyond football. You could feel that as soon as the national anthems started,” Messi said.

The 39-year-old praised Argentina’s supporters and urged them to savour the moment, insisting the national team would continue to give everything for the country.

“To the fans, I say the same thing I said in Qatar: enjoy it. This team will never let you down. This team is so special.”

Messi admitted he was overwhelmed after Argentina reached a second consecutive World Cup final, describing the tournament as one of the most unpredictable he has experienced.

“This World Cup has been absolutely crazy, and so reaching another World Cup final is incredible. It’s unbelievable.”

Reflecting on the significance of the victory over England, Messi said the emotions inside the stadium were evident from the very beginning.

“From the moment the national anthem started, we’ve all felt something special. This wasn’t just another victory. This was more, as all Argentine people desperately wanted it.”

The Inter Miami star also offered a deeply personal reflection on his career, thanking God for everything he has achieved both on and off the pitch.

“God is great, and He always has something else, but honestly, I can no longer ask God for more. I am grateful for everything God has given me, whether in my sports career or in my life.”

Looking ahead to Sunday’s final against Spain, Messi said he would leave the outcome in God’s hands.

“It will be God’s will. God knows.”

Argentina will now seek to defend the World Cup title they won in Qatar as Messi aims to cap another memorable tournament with a second consecutive World Cup crown.
